my desk makeover {and tutorial}

I'm giving my little brown desk a makeover.

I decoupaged the top with cut up paper from Paper Source {where else?}

I love this vintage post card paper! I cut out all the individual post cards so I could lay them in different directions across the desk.

Spread on the Mod Podge and lay the paper down.

I let the post cards hang over the edges, then cut them when I was finished {I also used the access to fill in gaps}

I put several layers of Mod Podge on top to seal it.

But I need help...

What to paint it the desk?? If I should paint it... or maybe just change out the hardware?

Any suggestions? I'd love to hear them!

** UPDATE **

Thank you for all your suggestions! I decided to go with black for the desk with white hardware: here's the finished product:

  3. I would have to agree with the suggestion of black for the paint color, and then maybe your idea for new turquoise hardware. I'm not good at visualizing the hardware change though...

  4. Maybe a creamish color and change the hardware?

  5. Thank you all for your suggestions! I have to seriously consider them all! (it is very hard for this mind-maker-upper to make up her mind) :)

  6. I really love how the postcards turned out. In order to blend the modernness of the room and the new vintage appeal of the desk, I would paint everything except the drawer faces black or a black-brown. Then distress the drawer faces. Since your lamp is petty mod, I'd leave the matching hardware. Where'd you find that lecture stand? It adds a nice touch.

  7. Thanks Christine- I hadn't thought of doing different drawer colors, I like that- I'll have to think about it! The lecture stand was a gift from my husband's dad after he graduated Bible school- he actually went on the hunt for an antique lecture stand and found one! I don't think I'd have that luck, but we're thankful for it :)
